World’s Fastest Cars
Motorcycles are undeniably fast, however, they pale in comparison to what some of the world’s fastest cars are capable of achieving. Half of the reason why motorcycles are such a challenging ride is due to the amount of exposure that the rider is subject to when using them; this makes reaching these break-neck speeds all the more intense when there is nothing but a helmet between you and the wind being generated. It is no wonder then, that people have been able to manufacturer cars that are capable of leaving these super-bikes in the dust. But what exactly are the fastest cars currently available on the planet?..
Below are examples of some of the fastest legal street cars that are currently available:
- Pagani Zonda F – This stunning piece of engineering is capable of reaching top speeds of up to 215mph, with a 0-60 acceleration time of just 3.5 seconds. The car features a Mercedes Benz V12 engine, and is also the object of male desire around the globe.
- Jaguar XJ 220 – With a top speed of 217mph, the Jaguar is an unbelievably fast car. It can accelerate from 0-60 in 4 seconds flat and boast a V6 engine that packs a whopping 542 horsepower. Getting a chance to own one of these fantastic machines is extremely limited (sorry to disappoint the sheer volume of potential buyers out there!), as there have only been a total of 281 XJ 220s ever manufactured.
- Ferrari Enzo - Ferrari only made a limited number of these cars (399 in total), which is hardly surprising when you learn that it is capable of reach prices of $1 million at auction. It can reach 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 217mph.
- McLaren F1 – McLaren are one of the biggest names in Formula One racing, mostly due to the extreme feat of engineering that their F1 racer became. It can reach top speeds of 240mph, while reaching 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Riding inside one must be a truly jaw-dropping experience. Buyers in the market for one of these elite vehicles can expect to pay around $2 million…
- Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport – this is arguably the fastest legal street car in the world today, with an obscene set of statistics behind it to back up that claim. It can reach top speeds of an incredible 267mph and go from 0-60 in 2.2 seconds. The car houses an 8-litre W16 engine, which gives it a ridiculous 1200 horsepower. With these features you would be right to expect a price-tag to match; the Veyron does not disappoint, costing a staggering $2.4 million.
Petrol-heads everywhere will find solace in the fact that the incredible speeds that these vehicles are capable of achieving has only been witnessed in the controlled setting of a track. There are experimental prototypes, as well as other land-based vehicles that have managed to breach the sound barrier, leaving the motorcycles and cars mentioned above in the dust… ?
